Chevron helps revamp Matara Hospital OPD

The OPD Unit and conference room at the General Hospital Matara will be revamped by Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC as part of a Rs. 5 million renovation project to improve the quality of Health care for the people in the area,

“It is an important day in the history of our hospital,” said Dr. Anura Jayasekera, Director – General Hospital, Matara at the ceremony to announce the Chevron initiative. “We are proud to have Chevron supporting us in this renovation and reconstruction project of the OPD and conference room which is an essential part of our plans to upgrade the hospital facilities in this area and throughout the province.” The General Hospital Matara has continuously worked towards the further enhancement of the facility as part of their efforts to provide the people of Matara with better health care. According to the hospital, on average 1000 patients visit the OPD unit a day for medical attention. Most often due to the inadequate facilities at the OPD unit, the patients are inconvenienced to a great extent but through this project the hospital will work towards providing patients with the best of services.

“There was quite clearly an urgent need for the renovation of this hospital premises and we are pleased to be able to play a role in this project.” said Kishu Gomes, Managing Director/CEO for Chevron in Sri Lanka, in a company press release.

“This milestone underscores Chevron's commitment to conduct business in a socially responsible and ethical manner benefiting the communities we work in.”

The General Hospital, Matara renovation project is the first health care sector project that Chevron has committed to.
