Outstation teams dominate

Outstation teams showed their prowess in no uncertain terms when Badulla, Galle, Matara and Anuradhapura entered the semi-final of the Kreeda Shakthi Inter-District Netball Tournament organized by the Ministry of Sports at Torrington Square yesterday.

This competition is organized by the Ministry of Sports in order to promote the game in the under 20 age group at district level. Sixteen districts are taking part in the competition

In the semi-finals to be worked off today Galle will take on Matara and Badulla will confront Anuradhapura at the same venue starting at 7.30 am and the winners will clash in the final. Some keen games are expected as Matara beat Galle in the first round. In other upsets in the contest Colombo lost to the tall Monaragala girls at 10-11. In a quarter final game Gampaha crashed to Anuradhapura 17-18 after leading in the first quarter.
Results

Group A champions: Gampaha, runner-up: Monaragala, third place: Colombo.
Group B champions: Matara, runner-up: Galle.
Group C champions: Badulla, runner-up: Anuradhapura.
Group D champions: Kegalle, runner-up: Kurunegala.
Second Round: Matara bt Kurunegala 15-6, Galle bt Kegalla 15-7, Anuradhapura bt Gampaha 18-17, Badulla bt Monaragala 15-9.
