Condemned to a cramped-up life ADVERTISTMENTS
Noon and on the menu is steaming hot rice, fish curry, bandakka curry and mallun. For those who are vegetarian there is dhal instead of fish. Everywhere one looks there are men in white, carrying pails and towels, walking to the spot assigned to them, for their lunch, after their morning’s work shift. Here and there are men in khaki.
 
Galle: All set to put best foot forward
In this, its second year, one can see the Galle Literary Festival making the switch from an innovative novelty, to an established annual event on the literary calendar. The transition so far seems to be surprisingly smooth.
 
Chasing elephants is not the answer

Chasing the elephants seems to be the most appealing idea and the Wildlife Department’s lack of resources seems to be the stumbling block! Where the elephants are to be chased is not clear. Are they to be chased into an area strictly demarcated for wildlife?
