Taprobane Travels, a long-standing tour operator in the United Kingdom, celebrated their 30th anniversary recently at a gala dinner at the Thai Pavilion in London in the presence of a representative gathering from the travel trade.

Sri Lanka's High Commissioner to the UK, Kshenuka Seneviratne, who was present on the occasion said Taprobane Travels has been in the forefront promoting Sri Lanka to the United Kingdom market.

She recalled how the company kept Sri Lanka's name alive through difficult times, especially due to the Northern insurgency, and despite adverse publicity. "Many are the years when Taprobane Travels bagged the top award for being the highest seller for Sri Lankan Airlines, the national carrier". She described the company's Managing Director Gamit Ameresekera as a "true Sri Lankan" and his assistant Kamini Rodrigo as a "meticulous driving force".
