Jayasri on the move

Popular Sri Lankan band Jayasri was in action at the 'Afrika Tage' (Africa Days) World Music Festival in Vienna's Danube Island Open air concert venue on Sunday last, August 5. At this Raggae Fest, Jayasri was on the same stage with some of the top names in the reggae world such as 'Sigi Finkel & African Heart', 'Ras & Roots', 'Ghettoman and the Believers' and 'Family Kuti' to name a few.

According to Rohitha Jayalath, the leader of the Jayasri, who was in touch with TV Times, the band performed many concerts in Austria, Italy, Korea and in Slovenia. 'Reggae Jam 2007 Open air Festival in Reinsberg', 'ROZ World Music Open Air Festival' in Slovenia -Austria border, 'Summerjam 2007' in Germany were some of the biggest events Jayasri had performed during the month of July.

‘We have toured all over Europe to promote our latest album 'Samaya - Peace' and we call it Peace Tour. Soul in South Korea was an interesting trip. That was our very first gig at Korea and we will be returning to Korea in September' Rohitha said. The boys will be in action at Ansan City in South Korea in mid September, Verona, Milano, Lekko in North Italy in late September and North America tour in Toronto, Vancouver in Canada and USA will happen in the month of October.

'In Toronto we will be performing at the one of the best Reggae Clubs, where we will expose our unique Jayasri reggae stuff for mix audiences of Caribbean, Latinos Canadian community and performed Jayasri Concert at different venues' he said. 'In such positive way, we continue our JAYASRI 'Saamaya-Peace' tour in Germany, Holland, UK, Cyprus and in Middle East too….in coming months till the end of the year' Rohitha said.

'JAYASRI Live in Europe' a live DVD is in making with some good live vibes from the Reggaejam festival and will be releasing soon' he said. 'Also new video clips for 'Situ Kumariye', 'Ay May' and 'See Dewi' songs from our new album Saamaya are under production in Vienna'.

Jayasri will be in Sri Lanka to perform for the festive season in December. 'This time we will be coming with our full JAYASRI line up' Rohitha said. 'We still work and plan for the correct time and further necessary arrangements' he added. Saamaya - Peace song and 'Situ Kumariye' are featured in a Worldmusic compilation CD done by VIDC -Moving Cultures, an Austrian organization which works to bring different cultures, music together and distributed worldwide.

'This was a great opportunity to bring our music together with international stars.
