Century-old prison going to Pallekelle
The 131 year-old Bogambara Prison will finally be relocated in Pallekelle with construction to begin in the near future. The total cost of the project is estimated to cost Rs.3,500 million while the prison would have all modern facilities. The Cabinet has approved a memorandum submitted by Justice and Law Reforms Minister Amarasiri Dodangoda in this regard.
 
Gampola being an ancient city and by gone days it was known as Gangasiripura (Town with river beauty). Gampola is almost as important as Kandy. Being a popular tourist destination, Kandy has many hotels catering to up market clientele and also for various walks of life. But leaving Kandy on the Gampola-Nuwara Eliya Road, there are no top hotels till you reach Nuwara Eliya.
 
Poson at Sri Dalada Maligawa
The Temple of the Tooth Relic of the Buddha, the Sri Dalada Maligawa is a hallowed place of worship for all Buddhists the world over. Yesterday, as Sri Lankans marked Poson Purapasaloswaka Poya, The Sunday Times visited the Sri Dalada Maligawa to witness the special Poson programme. Poson Poya is significant because it was on such a full moon Poya day that Mahinda Maha Thera set foot in Sri Lanka.
 
Paradise lost
