Rohitha’s appointee told to step down

The Foreign Ministry’s newly appointed Director General of Economic Affairs has been told to step down. The instructions to this effect have come from the Presidential Secretariat, The Sunday Times learns.

Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama appointed Renuka Weerakoon, a director in charge of the Board of Investment Director General’s office, as the DG Economic Affairs.

Ms. Weerakoon when contacted by The Sunday Times said she did not want to comment on the issue. The Sunday Times learns that another senior BOI official also has been appointed as an advisor to the Foreign Ministry.

The BOI comes under the Investment Promotion Ministry, which Mr. Bogollagama headed prior to the January cabinet reshuffle.
