Junior Golf Clinic opens at Royal Colombo

The new brooms at the Royal Colombo are sweeping superbly and they have not taken long to get off the ground and they are doing it all in style and in the right direction. To improve the standard of golf is obviously their main objective and they have chosen an excellent team to handle the progress of the scheme.

Merging with the Sri Lanka Golf Union they are preparing a Clinic for the tender and the teenager under the expert co-ordination of Queen Pin, Radha Sunderampillai. To assist they have brought in Michael Perera Magala, a bright spark, a smart exponent, exceptionally talented, with great enthusiasm to teach and impart. They should combine superbly and with the assistance of Michael Perera the new Golf Professional, much good must come out of their plans. Lalin Samarawickrema, Ron Bakelman and Tissa Jayasinghe will remain unobtrusively in the background, ready with the assistance the co-ordinator requires.

The Clinic invites kids and teenagers to join in, and the clamour to participate is quite encouraging. Now I cannot help but add that it will be really great if only the Golf Union and the Royal Colombo could spare some thought for the Caddies and fore Caddies. I feel strongly that their talent should be encouraged and developed. After all they are the guys who have brought us credit and laurels since the demise of the legend, Pin Fernando almost 30 years ago.
