Lankan in 200 kph dash to trouble

A 19-year-old student from Sri Lanka has been charged for driving a BMW at more than 200 kilometres per hour on the Monash Freeway in Victoria Australia, ABC News Online said yesterday.

Police believe the student had been involved in illegal street racing and have impounded his BMW and charged him with dangerous driving, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation said. It quoted Assistant Commissioner Noel Ashby as saying the Sri Lankan could face far more serious offences for driving at such a high speed.

"It was just fortunate that we were able to stop him on this occasion,” Assistant Commissioner Ashby had told ABC.
