Douglas & Sons felicitates dealers

Douglas & Sons, sole agents for GT Tyres (Gajah Tunggal) in Sri Lanka, recently hosted a residential celebration for its dealers at the Hilton Colombo, culminating in the spectacular ‘GT Awards Night 2007.’

The company said in a statement that 326 DSL dealers were recognized for their contributions during the year, and 184 of the super performers walked away with air tickets that promised exciting holidays to destinations such as Europe and Asia. Those achieving exceptional targets were rewarded with the most coveted tickets to all parts of the world.

Saroj Perera, Chairman of DSL, said, “25% of the 900,000 tyres imported to Sri Lanka each year comes from Douglas and Sons, which is a significant market share. The achievement is especially significant in terms of the volatility the tyre industry is currently experiencing. With the raw material used in tyre manufacturing such as rubber, petroleum and iron facing price rises on the world market and freight costs beings at an all time high, tyre prices have also experienced rapid price revisions internationally. The situation has been further exacerbated by the depreciation of the rupee against major currencies which has forced importers to price imported tyres at a very high premium rate.”

DSL says it has been the market leader for imported tyres in Sri Lanka for almost a decade making its entry into the tyre market in 1988 with the introduction of GT Bias Tyres and six years later in 1994 – GT Radials were brought in to Sri Lanka.
