Economic and trade issues at CCC’s Economic Summit

The first session of the Economic Summit 2007 of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce will deal with ‘achieving a double-digit growth.’

The session will be chaired by Dr. Sarath Amunugama, Minister of Enterprise Development and Investment Promotion, who will elaborate on the government’s envisaged growth strategies and identify means of achieving it.

The keynote address for this session will be delivered by Alan Rosling, Executive Director, TATA Sons Ltd, on “How Great Companies Achieve It,” followed by Dr. P.B. Jayasundera, Secretary to the Treasury-Ministry of Finance and Planning, who would speak on “Macro Economic Development framework for the next ten years”.

The other speakers are Richard Vokes, Country Director, Asian Development Bank, who would speak on the “Asian Experience” and Mahen Dayananda, Chairman of The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) who will speak on the “Role of the Private Sector”. The session would be co-chaired by Dr. Anura Ekanayake, Deputy Vice Chairman of CCC.

The second session of the conference titled ‘Trade and Investment-Unleashing The Potential’ will elaborate on steps being taken by the Board Of Investment (BOI) to make Sri Lanka a more attractive investment destination and the incentives offered to foreign investors.

Prof. G.L. Peiris, Minister of Export Development and International Trade, will chair the session while R.L. Juriansz, Chairman, Imperial Tea Exports (Pvt) Ltd would be the co-chair.

This key session would be addressed by Dhammika Perera, Chairman/ Director General- BOI on “Why Invest in Sri Lanka” and Dr. Saman Kelegama, Executive Director-Institute of Policy Studies on “Potential for Trade and Investment through FTAs”. Roshan Lyman, Head of Trade, Politics and Economic Cooperation, Delegation of the European Commission to Sri Lanka will speak on “New Opportunities To Enter The EU Market.”
