A man of few words who delivered

By Roshantha Fernando, Nawala

It was indeed disappointing and sad for the entire nation that our cricketers were unable to clear the final hurdle by winning the World Cup.

But all credit must be given to our boys for coming so far. Australia on the other hand was undoubtedly the better side and they proved this in style.

The question now on every cricket enthusiast’s mind is ‘What is the future of Tom Moody?’ He did his job effectively and should be retained, otherwise it would be like “killing the goose that lays the Golden Egg”. It was the same with Whatmore in 1996.

Moody is a man who says very little but he delivered and the team has progressed well under him. He left no stone unturned to make this a winning side. We must not forget Trevor Penney our fielding coach. Last but not least we must be thankful for having a fine gentleman and disciplinarian in our Manager Michael Tissera who has a tremendous influence on the team.

It is hoped that sanity will prevail in this respect and Moody’s contract extended.
