Athas case:Next hearing on May 15

The Court of Appeal postponed the hearing of the case where two Air Force Officers were sentenced by the Colombo High Court for illegal trespassing on the residence of, and intimidating using firearms, The Sunday Times Defence Correspondent Iqbal Athas.

The two accused Rukman Herath and Don Pradeep Sujeewa Kannangara were found guilty on two counts and sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment on the first count and two years on the second count and fined Rs. 10.000 with one year added to the sentence in case the fine was not paid.

The first accused Rukman Herath was killed during the proceedings and was represented by his father. President’s Counsel Ranjith Abeysuriya appearing for both accused informed court that they were innocent and were not present at Mr. Athas’s residence.

He said the people who had come there were in search of women and as they were informed in the negative they went away
The Judges of the Court of Appeal M. Immam and Sarath de Abrew said that the case would be resumed on May 15.
