Lankan wins prestigious award

Kalmunai- born engineer Ahmed Marsuik brought pride to Sri Lanka when he won the prestigious Bob Fisher Memorial Award for scoring the highest marks in the "Chartered Structural Engineer" examination. Bob Fisher, an outstanding engineer of his generation was once the Chairman of the Midland Counties Branch of the Institution.

The extremely tough seven - hour examination, known as the toughest in engineering competence, was conducted by the Institution of Structural Engineers in the UK which is the only and the highest body in the world awarding the "Chartered Structural Engineer" (CEng, MIStructE) by exam.

Congratulating Ahmed during the award ceremony Prof. John Burland of the Imperial College of London, known for stopping the leaning of the Tower of Pisa, said, "Ahmed you are an outstanding person".

After Mrs. Fisher presented the awards Ahmed and his wife Nissa were entertained to dinner at Birmingham.

Ahmed has been appointed as a tutor in the Institution of Structural Engineers, UK.
