Going beyond the limits VERTISTMENTS

Picking up from where we left off last week… it was off to the Himalayas! Our road trip had officially begun. For the next 12 days, it was going to be just us, the mountains and of course 'the river.' We comprised 24 potential change makers from India, Sri Lanka, UK and Finland (six participants per country). All 30 of us (inclusive of our respective country coordinators, excluding Finland's coordinator – who joined us towards the end of the project), trooped into our vehicles, and with Bollywood hits resonating throughout the hills, we set off on our pursuit of the celebrated Yamuna!

Vibrant strokes

The room is awash with colour, the walls alive with shifting patterns and shadows. In one corner flowers bloom, in another butterflies flutter, and in yet another men and women struggle mutely towards freedom. In this room, displayed side by side, you can see the visions of three young artists – Ushva Fairooz, Menaka Dharmapala, and Dhimyam Ahmed – crystallise and come alive.

Rev up for the revelations
I had been warned, prior to my appointment, that I would probably hear my interviewees before I see them. And as we finally parked outside No. 23, down a little lane in Nawala (having had quite a detour), there wasn't any doubt that we were in the right place. The rich, powerful voices coming from inside gave me a pretty good picture of what to expect.
