Foreign students can work in the UK

A new visa scheme enabling international students to work in the UK for a year after they have completed their studies has been launched by the British authorities, officials said.

International students who obtain a bachelors degree or higher level qualification in any subject from a recognised university or college in the United Kingdom will be able to stay on for a year.

The scheme will be introduced on May1 and will help cement the UK’s status as a top study destination for international students, a British High Commission statement said.

British High Commissioner, Dominick Chilcott said this will help ensure Britain continues to attract students who contribute to the UK’s economic and cultural life.

“Allowing them to work in the UK for a year will provide them with valuable work experience to augment the knowledge and skills they have acquired at our universities and colleges. It will also allow UK employers to benefit from skilled people who have gained UK qualifications and have experience of living in the UK,” he said.
