IFS gearing for infrastructure projects

IFS Sri Lanka is gearing to provide the systems for a host of infrastructure projects that are due to be implemented in the country largely by the government by the end of the year.

“IFS Sri Lanka operation was part of IFS’s Asia Pacific Region, but now we have aligned it to IFS Middle East, Africa and South Asia regions in order to meet the necessary requirements for the new projects that are due to come,” Ian F. Fleming, Managing Director IFS Middle East, Africa and South Asia told The Sunday Times FT.

He explained that there will be many utilities projects that IFS will be working on in the country in the near future. “As such we have aligned Sri Lanka into the fold, because then we can hoist expertise from the relevant regions and combine them to work on the projects,” he pointed out.

Fleming further explained that the Middle East region is one of IFS’s fastest growing markets where the company is very focused on oil, gas, telecom and the utilities market in particular, while in South Africa and Nigeria IFS has worked extensively in the telecom sector.

“There are different strengths in these operations and Sri Lanka has the research and development (R & D) base, which is very important to IFS on a global level.

That is the main reason why IFS decided to align Sri Lankan operations to the other three regions because we saw it as a strategic move,” he said.

He said that there are occasional concerns about the political situation in the country, but it has not impacted the way IFS views Sri Lanka. “It has never been a show stopper,” he added.
