Airport welcome for resumed Cathay flights

Cathay Airways, which resumed flights this week after a temporary suspension over the LTTE attack on the Katunayake airforce base, received a grand welcome at the Colombo airport.

Deputy Chairman of Airports and Aviation, Shalitha Wijesundera, officials of the Sri Lanka Tourism Board and Cathay’s Management Team in Sri Lanka were at hand to welcome passengers and crew.

To celebrate Cathay’s resumed services; Country Manager for Sri Lanka, Julian Lyden and his senior management held a special draw of two free return air tickets to Bangkok on Business Class among Cathay’s departing passengers, that evening. This draw was held at the departure gate with Wijesundera and Captain Williams drawing the two prizes.

“The airline took the difficult decision to suspend its flight operations to and from Colombo, out of concern for the safety of its passengers and crew,” said Cathay’s Chief Operating Officer Tony Tyler. “Cathay remains committed to Sri Lanka and we are happy to resume flights back to Colombo.”
