Rain in the way of Vakarai resettlemnt

Commenting on the resettlement of Vakarai refugees, an official said here too the construction of semi-permanent temporary shelters had been hampered due to the rains. “We have completed Phase One of the resettlement Vakarai. 14, 568 people are now living in camps in Vakarai but the construction of these semi-permanent shelters have been delayed,” District Secretary S.S. Giridaran said.

Elaborating on resettlement programme he said 631 families will be resettled in Vakarai North, 522 families in Uriyakattu, 504 in Palchenia, 563 in Panichankerny, 74 in Mankerny, 14 in Maruthankerny, 86 in Kirumichchi, 195 in Vakarai Central, 438 Ambanthanaveli, 344 Puchchakerny and 614 in Kathiraveli.

He said although 11 families had been selected to be settled in Kattumurivu, due to delays in clearing operations they had been settled in an area closeby.
