Lanka to raise terrorism threat to region at Delhi SAARC summit

Sri Lanka is keen to draw focus to the issue of terrorism and the threat it poses to the region when the SAARC Heads of State Summit gets under way in New Delhi on Tuesday.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa will lead Sri Lanka’s delegation to the summit along with Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama and other high ranking officials.

The President is likely to speak on the global threat that the air capabilities of the LTTE is posing to the region as well as Sri Lanka and seek a review of the SAARC convention on Suppression of Terrorism.

Afghanistan will be given SAARC membership during the summit bringing the membership of the association to eight.
