HSBC cheque deposits through post offices

HSBC has made arrangements for cheque deposits to be made through 14 super grade post offices to HSBC accounts and credit cards.
This move is expected to make banking even more convenient for the bank’s customers, the Bank said.

HSBC customers can now make both cash and cheque deposits to their accounts at these post offices island wide – GPO Colombo, Kotahena, Nugegoda, Dehiwala, Mount Lavinia, Moratuwa, Panadura, Kalutara, Galle, Gampaha, Negombo, Kurunegala, Kegalle and Kandy.

The funds deposited will be available for withdrawal (or settlement of the credit card bill) for cheque deposits made 3 pm as follows: for HSBC cheques by 6.30 pm on the second working day and any other cheque by 9 pm on the third bank working day.

Referring to the new facility, HSBC Chief Executive Officer David J H Griffiths said, “we understand that not everyone is comfortable to walk around with bundles of cash and this is why we introduced the new cheque deposit facility together with the Sri Lanka Postal Department.” Griffiths said he was happy the project is working really well and that HSBC customers who live outside of Colombo have responded very positively to this new initiative.

HSBC’s tie-up with the Ministry of Posts is the first of its kind in Sri Lanka and also allows customers to use or apply for credit cards at the post office itself. “Our aim was to make HSBC’s services and products available to the local community islandwide,” he said, speaking about the agreement which was launched in partnership with the Ministry of Posts in November 2006.
