Hot on fashion's heel

For all you serious fashionistas, here are some of the latest fashion trend predictions to indulge in this season. You are sure to find in here some noteworthy must haves to add on to your current shopping list.

The winning look for 2006 is the "60's modernism look". The 60's was an era of drama, romanticism and sensual glamour. The world's fashion houses have revived and adorned this vintage look on to the ramps worldwide. The 60's minimalist look is made cool and sexy.

Flowy flounces, flares, frills, ruffles and lace trimmings, Victorian tiers, puffed sleeves, accordion pleats, pintucks, intricate embroidery and cordwork with wisps of crochet are the rage this season. Boleros full length and short are very much in vogue this season, so be a bolero babe… (Best worn with jeans or miniskirts.)

"Elegance with an attitude" celebrating pretty and delicate feminine details with free flowing silhouettes – that's the current fashion mood.

Designers the world over have launched captivating Victorian collections using translucent fabrics such as georgettes, chiffons and crepes, sometimes incorporating innumerable varieties of fabrics together into one piece. Flowy and flouncy dresses in soft floral hues have made a major comeback. Pencil skirts and flared accordion pleated skirts are also hot this time of year.

The colour palette used to compliment this vintage look are blacks, whites, grays, and nude colours like cream, ivory beige and warm jewel colours. Many designers dress their favourite celebs such as Nicole Kidman and Linsey Lohan in stunning pieces in black or white or its combinations. So this is the season's hottest colour contrast. Subtle checks too have emerged with a roar. So it's a good time to go chic with checks.

Go for the black, white and nude colour combos with all its flounce and grandeur, in elegant chiffons crepes and georgettes.

Accessorise the look!

Here too the vintage theme has been elaborated using classical bead chains, belts and lots of beads. Dull gold beads and pearls are combined onto long necklaces that fall below the waist. This highlights your outfit with lots of chains bracelets and waist belts.

Stay electrified with brilliant flashes of chandelier earrings which still command a trend.

Varcace's autumn winter 06/07 portrayed an aviation and space combined supersonic look. Narciso Rodriguez also patronized this aerospace look by using shiny satins and leather fabrications to his collection. Hold on to the last year’s "metallic accessories" and flaunt those metallic hues from bags, belts, jewelry to shoes. So if it's accessories, be bold – go metallic with space shiny, underarm bags, purses, belts and even stainless steel jewellery.

Designer bags such as Prada's latest collection favours chic but massive sized handbags. There is a fine line between enjoying fashion and getting compulsive about it. The secret lies in exercising your choice. The trick in being a true fashionista is in being true to yourself.You can still have fun with trends but be sure to flatter your body type/structure and personality. Use the knowledge on trends but mould them to suite you.
