Maher wins at Sailing Nationals

The Janashakthi Sailing Nationals organized by the Yachting Association of Sri Lanka and sponsored by Janashakthi Insurance Co. Ltd were held during the last weekend at the Bolgoda Lake on a grand scale.

The winners received their trophies from Romesh Schaffter, Director Janashakthi Insurance Ltd and Kotmale Holdings Ltd and Mrs. Abbi Schaffter, Thilan Wijesekara, Marketing Manager, Janashakthi and Ravi Liyanage, DGM, Marketing, Janashakthi Insurance.

YASL was assisted by the Ceylon Motor Yacht Club in conducting these Sailing events this year.

The winners in these events were:

Optimist Class (Under 15 years of age) Novices: Winner – Thomas Maher, 1st Runner up – Aitana Gunaratne, 2nd Runner up – Sashi Schaffter.

Intermediate: Winner – Alexandra Maher, 1st Runner up – Bob Van Dijk, 2nd Runner up – Danii-ella Svendsen.

Seniors: Winner – Radheeka Jirasinha, 1st Runner up – Allison Maher, 2nd Runners up – Devin Goonawardene.

Enterprise Class: 1st Place – W.P.K. Janaka and W.M.C. Marambe, 2nd Place – W.A.R. Nishantha and Dinesh Bandara, 3rd Place – L.P.K. Gunatilake and D.P. Newton.

GP 14 Class: 1st Place – Jeremy Bolling and Rehan Dias, 2nd Place – Joseph Kenny and Pramukshi Kariyawasam, 3rd Place : Duncan Fraser and Gail Fraser.

Laser Class: 4.7 Class – (Under 19) : 1st Place – Akshan Jirasinha, 2nd Place – Indrajith Abeysena, 3rd Place – Nadine De Rosayro.

Standard Class: 1st Place – Ernst Prachatik, 2nd Place – Dinesh Bandara, 3rd Place – Rasitha Nimantha. (BW)
