Abhayaratne swipes Free Lanka Trophy

Romesh Abhayaratne, a young rising star golfer, struck a nett par round to win the ‘A’ Classic by 3 strokes from Murad Ismail. Young Abhayaratne earlier in the week was involved in quite an unsavoury incident when he was playing the Ridgeways with his house guests, Henk & Anita Stevens, walking beside him. Information coming down the pipeline sounds contradictory and therefore undependable. Some members are probing the truth and if anything worthwhile becomes available I will certainly make use of the facts.

‘B’ Division
Suresh Subramaniam was in great form to come up with a praiseworthy nett 68. A 11 handicapper, his 79 was the best gross score for the day and he was so absolutely elated that he rushed back to the S.L.T.A. to relate a shot by shot, ball by ball commentary of his rewarding round. Sprightly Wasantha de Silva, was beaten by just one stroke. He had an excellent round playing a shade under his handicap of 11. P.B. Kalugalagedera, also known as ‘blackstonehouse’ came good with a nett par round.

‘C’ Division
Two Koreans came off superbly. H. S. Chung was the better of the two with an exceptionally smart round of nett 66 to win the ‘C’ Division award. Yeun Kook Chung came behind with nett 70.

Denison Excels
Doc Saparamadu knocks at the door with regular frequency and for the 2nd time he was admitted, following a methodical round of nett 72. He was beaming all afternoon with another Seniors’ victory and trophy.

Centuries & Confetti
Over six dozens struck smashing centuries and over two dozen rushed to the production line for confetti. Earth was moved, ponds were splashed, roofs over the boundary walls were peppered and the pond boys picked a rich harvest. It was great fun and much enjoyed by those who generally played hell!

Sponsors
Free Lanka Trading was quite extravagant in their sponsorship. Much credit to Joseph Kenny.
The Course

Sanjeeva Wickremanayake takes over as Turf Specialist. The modest man admits his knowledge is limited but his enthusiasm is so great and his dedication to the cause so strong that in just a month, the grass on the greens and fairways is obeying him !TITA
