Hirusanda Maima : Sinhala Tamil love tale

Thejaka Wasala Bandara is a young medical student. Having completed his education here he goes to India to specialise.

There he meets Asela, a student studying dancing and they become buddies. In India the two friends meet Urmila a dancer one weekend. She is an agriculturestudent. Urmila invites the two friends for one of her dance concerts. This opens up a close friendship between Thejaka and Urmila. It was Asela who pushed Thejaka to starts the affair.

This follows the story of ‘Hiru Sandu Maima’ directed by award winning teledrama director, Thusitha de Silva, which is now being telecast on Rupavahini every Saturday at 9.35 pm. The miniplay is latest teledrama which follows Thusitha’ Punchirala’ which received all major awards at the recently held, Raigam Tele Award in July 2006. 'Punchirala' adjudged the teledrama of the year winning most of the awards including Best Director and Best Production. In addition the teledrama won Best Actor, Best Actress, Best camera and Best art direction along with special jury awards for two child actors.

It stars Henry Jayasena, Veena Jayakody, Anula Karunathilake, Himali Saurangi, S. Vishvanadhan, Maureen Charuni, Pradeep Dharmadasa, Gihan Fernando, Piumi Shanika, Shantha Saparamadu, Janak Premalal, Niroshan Wijesinghe and Ajani Perera. The main role in Hiru Sandu Maima is played by Indian actress, Sheethal Ramachandan.

Scripted by K. B. Herath, Rohana Weerasinghe handled the music and camera handled by G. Nandasena.

The affair between, Thejaka and Urmila is opposed by parents of both the parties. Urmila is proposed to a young businessman, Anand who hopes to marry her one day. Meanwhile Thejaka's parents are waiting to propose Uparna, a young girl from the family circle itself to Thejaka. Uparna is the sister in law of Ajitha, Thejaka's sister. From the beginning Ajitha strongly objects to the affair between Thejaka and Urmila and this worsens when her husband, an Intelligent Officer attached to Sri Lanka Army is killed by a Tamil terrorist organization. Despite the objections the couple continues with their affair.

The forbidden love brings many troubles to their families. Thejaka's father who is a retired Naval officer worries about Thejaka and tries to commit suicide. Meanwhile Ajitha goes to India and brings her brother home by force and insists that he stops the affair. But Thejaka is not prepared give in to his family. This results the elders in Wasala Bandara distancing him from the family unit.

At this stage Urmila who is not aware of what is happening in Thejaka's family comes with her father to Sri Lanka, to do her practicals in Agriculture. Urmila's father, Balakrishnan settles his daughter in a house in upcountry and gets backs to India.

Meanwhile Thejaka who completes his education gets an appointment in a rural hospital in Nuwaraeliya district and one day they meet each other. The meeting gives a new start to their affair.

‘Hiru Sandu Maima’ takes dramatic turn when Urmila comes to know about her real identity from one of her father's servants.
