‘Anantha Sihinaya’ : Story in an estate

‘Anantha Sihinaya’ (The Eternal Dream) is a dramatic tale revolving around a couple, an elderly husband and a young wife.

Telecast every Thursday on the 9.35 pm belt on the Rupavahini the, miniplay is in its tenth episode. Screenplay written and directed by Thilak Wickremage whilst, the drama is produced by Thejani Wickremage for T4 Creations.

Set in an upcountry tea plantation, Anantha Sihinaya depicts confusion that is caused by the entrance of a young employee to the estate.

Reginald Samarasekara (Tony Ranasinghe) is a distinguished professional and his young wife Nayana (Ruwanthi Mangala) is an owner of a tea plantation. Nayana lost her parents when she was a child and she is brought up by a relative. It was her fate that she had to get married to elderly Reginald.

Having failed to bring forth a child the couple give up their search for medical advices. Reginald also vehemently objects Nayana's proposal to adapt an orphan as their child. This leads the young wife to misery.

At the same time Reginald who is only interested in his job spends most of his time away from home while Nayana is all alone at home.

It was at this stage that Kamal (Janak Kumbukge) an educated young man comes to the Samarasekara Walawwa in search of a job. Kamal who is qualified for the university gives up higher education due to financial difficulties. Kamal soon wins the heart of the Samarasekaras and becomes the superintendent of the tea estate belonging to Nayana. He also develops estate to a profitable business.

Nayana who gets interested in Kamal tries to entice him sensually but Kamal does not want to deceive his girlfriend, Nirmalee (Manjula Kumari) who also was his childhood friend and neighbour.

It was at this stage a major robbery takes place in the estate and some of the employees are fired. From here onwards the story Anantha Sihinaya takes a dramatic turn.

What will be the fate of childless Nayana and Reginald? Would Kamal be trapped by Nayana's wiles? What will be the fate of Nirmalee? These would be answered by the end of 22 episodes.

Neil Alles, Sarath Chandrasiri, Rupa Herath, Rathna Lanka Abeywickrema, Damitha Saluwadana, Milton Perera, Lambert Prematilake and Jayalth Kolambage comprise the cast.

In the technical crew Pushpakumara Bandaragama handles the make up while K. A. Milton Perera does the art direction. Lighting and camera directed by Daya Suriarachchi while Thissasiri Perera was responsible for the musical score.

The maiden effort by director Thilak Wickremage, the teledrama was filmed on locations in and around Panadura, Wadduwa and Embilipitiya.

Thilak entered the art scene as the producer of the film 'Madhusamaya' directed by K. A. Wijeyratne. The film released in 1991 starred Vijaya Kumaratunge and Malani Fonseka.
