‘Sudu Kapuru Pethi’ : Another tale of war

‘Sudu Kapuru Pethi’ now being telecast on the miniscreen is a courageous tale of a girl who goes to the war torn North in search of her lover, who disappeared some time ago..

Based on Thushari Abeysekere's novel of the same title, Athula Peiris directed the teledrama. It is telecast at 8.35 pm belt every Sunday on Rupavahini.

Veena Jayakody, Lucian Bulathsinghala, Bandula Vithanage, Giriraj Kaushalya, Nithyawani Kandasami and Anuruddhika Padukkage play are the main cast.

Anjalee Rathnasekara is a medical student. Her boy friend Abhijith disappears mysteriously. Having heard that he is now in the North she decides to go there alone. In the North she stops at her schoolmate Janvi's house where Janvi's mother, Pushpadevi, grandmother, sister and father live.

On her way to the North she meets Rama, a medical practitioner. She falls in love with him. But Anjalee tells him the truth. At Janvi's place Anjalee meets with several problems. At last she is taken to a LTTE camp where she is harassed. Anjalee is assigned to look after a wounded LTTE leader, Kavin.

He reveals the full story about Anjalee's boyfriend, Abhijith who is now no more. Anjalee is despondent and Kavin develops an interest in her. It was at this time the LTTE camp is attacked by the Army. Anjalee too gets wounded and she is rushed to Colombo, where she meets Doctor Rama again. He realises that Anjalee is pregnant now but she refuses to reveal who is responsible for the child.

Lyrics penned by Rathna Sri Wijeysinghe, music in Sudu Kapuru Pethi is directed by Navaratne Gamage. Rohana Samaraweera handled the camera while Somaratne Perera filmed 'Sudu Kapuru Pethi'.
