My Hobby

My hobby is collecting Barbie dolls. I first started collecting Barbie dolls when I was about five years old and now have over thirty barbies.

My favourite is the princess and the pauper barbie,‘Anneliese.’ She's in a fashionable pink ball gown of satin and net. She also wears her hair long and loose.

My ‘Ballerina Barbie’ is in a pink tutu with silver work. She is very flexible and wears her hair in a ponytail. My ‘Mermaid Barbie’ is also quite fashionable and is dressed in a lovely magenta blouse with a fish shaped fin. Another Barbie in a ball gown is ‘Odette’ my Swan Lake Barbie. Her gown is a beautiful pink and blue with silver work. She wears a crystal crown over her loose hair.

Some of the other fashionable babies are the ‘Valentine Barbie’ in her pretty red dress, ‘Cinderella Barbie’ in a shimmering gown and glass slippers, ‘Indian Barbie’ in her pretty Manipuri saree, and the ‘Working Woman Barbie’ quite smart in her short skirt and jacket.

With my Barbies I can practice ballet, go to work, go surfing, become a princess, a mermaid, a swan, a flower fairy and even celebrate my birthday on any day of the year with my Birthday Barbie.

As I grow older I would like to keep adding fashionable and famous Barbies to my collection, and maybe , one day I can keep an exhibition with them.

A trip to Leisure World

On June 15, 2006 we went on a trip to Leisure World at Seethawaka, Kaluagala. My uncle took us with his family. Early morning at 8.30 we started our trip in a van. On the way we had our breakfast at 'Perera & Sons.'

We reached the Leisure World Water Park at 10.15am. It opens at 9am and closes at 6pm. They offer packages ranging from Rs.300 to Rs.1200. There are a lot of amusement activities such as Super Swinger, Crescent Swing, Happy Express, Space Ship, Junior Coaster, Pirate Ship, Log Flume.

All those in attractive swimming suits and trunks enjoyed swimming in the Wave Pool, Lazy River and Slides. We had chicken Buriyani at the Food Court. We had tea and snacks around 5pm and came home at 8pm.

Really, it is an unforgettable trip. The only, 'One 'n Only' theme park in Sri Lanka. We all say a very big ‘Thank You,’ to our uncle's family for organising this trip.

Peacock

The peacock is one of the most beautiful birds. Peacocks are found in many parts of the world. They have beautiful, long, green feathers with beautiful spots like eyes. They fan out their feathers to attract the peahen. Peahens are without these beautiful feathers.
Peacocks are omnivorous. They eat worms, grains and insects. Peacocks have a beautiful body but they have ugly feet. Peacocks can’t fly so high because of their body's weight. Sometimes they fan their feathers when it rains.

Poem Of The Week

War

Remember the war?
So painful and sore?
Screaming and shooting people shouting 'no'
It does not end here, there is more.

Blood is everywhere,
People hung from their hair,
War in never, ever fair.

The soldiers fight,
With all their might,
Maybe day and also night,
Oh! no, what an unpleasant sight,
There is smoke but not a kite.

Most have died,
While others hide.

Soldiers cried,
This task is not simple,
No one smiles, not a dimple.

The war goes on,
Like a stricky horn,
War is not a lovely song.
