The Tin

Down the street ally
There's a beggar on a trolley
unable to walk
even with a support
his back all bent
and begs for cents.

There's a tin in his hand with a slit
opening its mouth to fill his master's pit
The tin rattles a bit,
when a coin is thrown to it.

"God will save you, may the Lord bless you"
he chants at every passer
eyeing their bags and purses.

Some passers follow
with the words of sorrow
never turning back
to help the poor soul.

My mother

My mother's name is Jothy. She is nice and very beautiful. Her favourite colours are white and yellow. She takes care of me and my father. She makes and gives us tasty meals. My mother encourages me to study hard. Her desire is that I should become first in my class. When I continue to watch TV she gets angry but when I finish my homework and behave well, she will play with me.

My mother tells me lots of bedtime stories. They are very knowledgeable and some nice religious stories. She makes me read them too. She teaches me lots of good habits and manners. She always tells me to try every time. She does not like telling me "No" and "Can't." My mother feeds me, bathes me and helps me to do my school work and send me to school and classes on time.

My mother will not go anywhere without me. She will buy me whatever I want but she will not buy me sweets. She tells me to eat more fruits and green vegetable. She takes me for swimming classes. She will not give me lots of food and does not allow me to eat all the time. My mother always tells me the importance of time and advises me to keep my word and promises as she does to me. I love my mother and she loves me too.

The bee

Buzz… goes the busy bee
So fast that I could hardly see
Flying high in the great blue sky
I really wonder why?

First one flower
Then another
Oh! What a bother
it is to be a bee
But it is their job
Don't you see?

Lion

The lion is a hunter, a master of the art of stalking and leaping, exploding into snarling action when he searches for prey. The lions do not attack people until he is hungry.

We can see the lions in India. They are in the Gir Forest. They are not afraid of other animals but they are afraid of rhinos and elephants. The African lion is rather strong. People can tame it and make it part of a circus. Lions hunt at night. When they are hunting at nights their eyes start blinking. Lions have a mighty roar which has a blood-curdling effect, when they are about to kill.

The picture shows a mother lion playing with its two cubs.

Houses

Houses are buildings where people live. They are very useful in many ways. They give us shelter from sun and rain.

A house is a place where a family can live together. There are many parts in a house. They are used for many purposes. For example, the dining room for eating meals, the kitchen for cooking food, the verandah for relaxing, the utility room for washing, drying and ironing clothes.

There are different types of houses, like apartments, thatched huts, cottages, and bungalows. Each of these types are built with different building materials. They are in different shapes and sizes. The house is the only place where a person can feel happy and safe.

Trees

Trees are plants which grow slowly and outwards. Their roots are spread underground. They have strong stems called trunks that are covered with a protection layer of bark. Trees are very important for us. We get food from trees. Trees give us medicine, oils, rubber, fruits and paper. The life cycle on earth is maintained because of the trees as they produce oxygen which is necessary for human beings for breathing.
