‘Indikadolla’ depicts village values

Indikadolla’, the latest miniplay depicting the struggle to protect the serenity and harmony of a remote village from the external influences, is telecast every Wednesday at 7.30 pm on Rupavahini.

Directed by Nimal Ratnayake, this 35 episode teledram is produced by Vipul Shantha.

Buddhadasa Vithanarachchi, Nayana Kumari, Nilmini Tennekoon, Sanjaya Leelaratne, G. R. Perera, Seetha Kumari, Indrajith Navinna, Richard Weerakkody, Muri Samarasinghe, Rebecca Nirmalee, Busshika Lokuketiya, Nayana Hettiarachchi, Aradhana Geethanjalee and Hansala Janaki lead the stellar cast.

'Game Eththo' is a well respected elder of the village which is not spoilt by the evil influences from the city. His charming wife 'Manike' is much younger to him and they live peacefully and happily. Running a grocery they help the poor villagers in their economic difficulties. Though financially well-off this couple is sad as they are not blessed with children. When all attempts at poojas and prayers become fruitless, the husband goes to an astrologer in the neighbouring village. To his dismay he is told that they would not have children. Disappointed Game Eththo keeps it a secret from his wife. Yet to console himself he treats all the children in the village affectionately.

'Belaya' a descendant of the Veddha is a stalwart youngman who has inherited their traits. He and the monk from the village temple are the beacons who direct the villagers and guard them from evil influences that come from outside.

A trouble maker comes to the village in the guise of a businessman. He gets the villagers to kill animals and gets the villagers to plant opium in the paddy fields. There are some villagers who assist the businessman. Gudda, Setharan and Rathana are some who live this double life style. The biggest cause of these problems is the illiteracy of the villagers. They get trapped into the businessman's wiles and most of the time they regret it.

In order to find a solution Game Eththo brings down his younger brother Sudu Banda who is educated. Soon Sudy Banda develops his brother's business. He looks after the villagers and keeps an eye on the shrewd activities of the businessman. Time and again he assaults the businessman who exploit the poor villagers and drives him away from the village. Now Sudu Banda is the idol of both the young and the old.

Guni is a rebellious young attractive girl. She is in love with Belaya. With the entrance of Sudu Banda, Guni gets attracted to him. Yet she finds it difficult to get away from Belaya's influence. Guni's sister, Piyawathi who is married to a man from the other village returns. Guni elopes with Belaya and they settle in hut in a the forest. Meanwhile Guni's father is attacked by an elephant and dies.

Since Belaya is in the village no more, the external evil influences along with their evils infiltrate the village. The villagers spread rumors about Game Eththo's family and ruin their peaceful lives. The purity and calmness of the village is spoiled.
