Chaos unleashed

By Vidushi Seneviratne

Staying in line with their unconventional image, local rock icons Stigmata plan to take their fans by storm yet again. Levi’s Chaos at Clancy’s promises to be an unorthodox experience, at an unorthodox time and place… for rock music at least.

The gig is scheduled quite early in the day, and will be from 4 – 8 p.m., at Clancy’s on Sunday, June 18.

“People don’t really have much to do, entertainment-wise, on a Sunday. After partying on Fridays and Saturdays, Sundays are relatively quite uneventful. So this would be an interesting opportunity for people to enjoy a good gig,” says Suresh, Stigmata’s vocalist. “The next day being a weekday, the scheduled time slot would be perfect. Everyone who has work and school the next day would still be able to enjoy the performance, since it’ll be an early night.”

The chilled out atmosphere at the venue will give the performance a different perspective, and will be relatively relaxing for both the band and the audience. “The main difference between this gig and any other that we’ve done before is the atmosphere and the ambience. You’ll be able to relax through it all, and so will we,” says Suresh, adding that people, if they choose to, wouldn’t have to really dress up for it either.

Describing the gig, Suresh claimed that Levi’s Chaos at Clancy’s will be an interactive and trippy experience. “The music planned for the gig will be raw and interactive,” he says. According to him, the performance will consist of two sets of music belonging to distinctively different genres. “While one set will be more intense, the other set of songs will be more trippy and psychedelic.”

Stigmata will be performing tracks from their first album ‘Hollow Dreams’, as well as hits from their latest album ‘Silent Chaos Serpentine’. “This will be a great opportunity for people to hear songs live from ‘Silent Chaos Serpentine’, after quite a while. We plan to perform about eight songs from the new album, and hope to play a few cover tracks that we haven’t performed before as well.”

Adding to the versatility of the performance, Stigmata will be doing a few instrumental jams as well. “We will be incorporating some really cool jamming sessions, which will be totally spontaneous and unplanned,” he said. “The unplanned jamming sessions will give the performance that extra bit of uniqueness,” says Ranil, the band’s drummer, pitching in.

Levi’s Chaos at Clancy’s will feature a special guest performance, giving it completion. Being the first time an exclusive brand like Levi’s International is coming in to sponsor an event of this nature, this fact adds to the distinctiveness of the performance. The gig will surely be memorable, with the brand’s exclusivity tying up with a band of the likes of Stigmata, at a venue like Clancy’s.

The audience has a chance to win a free pair of Levis jeans and ‘Silent Chaos Serpentine’ CDs at the gig. Staying with their enigmatic reputation, Suresh claims that they might be introducing a “very cool” piece of merchandise as well. Tickets for Levi’s Chaos at Clancy’s, priced at Rs. 400/- can be purchased at the gate.
