Bond between a baby elephant and a child

‘Ali Patiyo Oyai Mamai’, a bond between a baby elephant and a child directed by Lal Priyadeva is soon to be released in Sri Lankan cinemas.

The film stars Bimal Jayakody, Bandu Samarasinghe, Ananda Wickremage, Prashani Perera, Ranjani Rajmohan, Teddy Vidyalankara, Wathika Jayasundara and Menaka Sandamalee, Ranjith de Silva and Anura Bandara Raguru.

Chaminda and Suminda going in search of treasure in the forest accidently kill a she-elephant. Her calf is orphaned. Veterinary surgeon Viraj arrives at the vicinity on emergency call. Seven years old Chaman his motherless child coaxes him to take him on this assignment. Chaman meets the orphaned calf and a close friendship develops. When Viraj realizes what is happening he tries to take Chaman home. When Chaman accompanies his father home sadly the baby elephant follows them.

On their way Viraj finds tree fallen across the road he tries to remove them. When Chaman too helps his father, the calf elephant helps them to remove the logs. As a result Viraj takes the elephant home.

Lechchumi the servant is asked to keep the secret. Although she doesn't let it out, the elephant …… Hearing noises, their neighbour Chamari suspects that is something going on at Viraj's house and she enters there secretly. She finds the elephant and gets frightened. She lodges a complaint and when the police arrive on the scene the elephant is no, where to be seen. Meanwhile Chamari's house is robbed. When the elephant helps to catch the thieves Chamari feels ashamed of what she had done.

Finally the police take away the elephant and Chaman and his father the veterinary surgeon go to a forest range for residence.

Lyrics written by Ven. Rambukkana Siddhartha Thera, Ravindhu Pasanjaya Ratigala has rendered his voice. Edward Jayakody is the music director. For the Movie Makers Limited Lalinda Wijewickrema, N. Udayakumar and P. Arurooran and Ravi Fernando produced the film.
