'National Government' talks again
UNP Chairman Malik Samarawickrema during a meeting with President Chandrika Kumaratunga this week discussed the formation of a Joint Committee mainly aimed at coming up with a National Government style common position on the settling of the northern insurgency with the LTTE.

Daluwatte retires
Gen. Rohan de S. Daluwatte, Chief of Defence Staff at the Joint Operations Headquarters, has gone on retirement with effect from June 1.

He is to shortly assume office as Sri Lanka's Ambassador to Brazil. No successor has been officially named so far.
