Neve's nightmare

Beautiful Scream queen Neve Campbell lived such a nightmare life as a young girl that she had a nervous breakdown. The other children teased her unmercifully for being "ugly". The stunning star of the horror movie and of TV's Party of Five said: "I was pretty much a loser. I had no friends. I was geeky and skinny." Neve tells of her agony in a new biography by Kathleen Tracy, called Neve Campbell. She beat 2,500 other candidates to win a place at the prestigious National Ballet School of Canada - and soon wished she hadn't. Things became so grim that Neve's classmates even made up a cruel song, saying she was so ugly she made everyone sick. She recalled: "It described all the girls, going from the prettiest to the ugliest. "The end of the song went, `Neve-urrggh, Neve-urrggh', as though they were throwing up. I used to go home and cry." There was a tradition at the school that everybody bought each other a five-cent Valentine's Day cookie. Nobody gave one to poor little Neve. She said: "I was devastated. "There was a horrible atmosphere at the school, where one's self-worth was beaten into submission. "I had a nervous breakdown. I couldn't relate to dance mentally ... from the not eating, to the back-stabbing, to doing something that keeps you in constant pain." Neve, now 26, left and enrolled in another school in Toronto. She took up acting and, at only 15, landed a part in Phantom of the Opera.

Sean reveals divorce

Sean Bean's third marriage ended in divorce last year, he revealed recently.

The hearthrob actor best known for his role as an army officer in Sharpe married co-star Abigail Cruttenden in a secret ceremony in 1997. But the couple (above) are said to have split up not long after the birth of their daugher Evie in November 1998. Sean continued to live in their £1.5 million home in Hampstead, while Abigail now lives in Hammersmith.

Sean's third divorce came just two years after his divorce from his second wife, Bread and Playing The Field actress Melanie Hill, with whom he has two daughters Molly, 12 and Lorna, eight. The marriage came to an end in 1997 when she tired of his reported womanising.

"Our life together is a sham," she said at the time. "I feel he doesn't really love me any more, I feel just like a housemaid," Sean's attitude was more philosophical. "I think you have to get over it. Otherwise you can be worrying over what should have been for the rest of your life," he said about their split.

Sean's first marriage to childhood sweetheart Debra Anderson finished when Sean moved from Sheffield to London to study drama at RADA.

Chelsea, Drew, Hollywood?

America's First Lady, Hillary Clinton, is worried sick because her daughter, Chelsea, has "gone Hollywood" with wild child and admitted bisexual Drew Barrymore. Chelsea is to make her film debut opposite Drew.

Hillary told a friend:

"It's sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll times ten. Even Bill is concerned. Out there, they make his shenanigans in the White House seem tame. And Drew Barrymore as a role model?

"She has turned her life around now, but she was in rehab at 14. I'm dreaming of Chelsea coming to visit from Hollywood with purple hair, a belly button ring, pierced eyebrows, tongue and God knows what else."

An insider said of the movie, Donnie Darko : "This isn't some big production and Drew sure ain't Meryl Streep. It's a low budget sci-fi fantasy with a hot teen romance."Chelsea's role will be small but crucial. Drew will act in the movie and is also the executive producer."

The President's daughter will also act opposite Drew and the 25-year-old star's boyfriend, Jake Gyllenhaal. The insider went on: "A part is being rewritten right now for Chelsea in the film, which is being produced by Drew's company, Flower Films.

It will headline Jake, who took the part on the promise that a role would be offered to Chelsea.

Drew shot to fame at the age of seven in Steven Spielberg's movie E.T. By the time she was 14, Drew ended up in rehab after years of drug and alcohol abuse. She also attempted suicide.

Drew's love life is just as colourful. She was married for just a month in 1994 to Jeremy Thomas. She was later engaged to Jamie Walters and had romances with Hole guitarist Eric Erlandson and Superman Dean Cain.

Drew once posed for Playboy and bared her breasts on a late-night TV show. Chelsea thinks Hillary's fears are groundless. She told friends: "This is a good opportunity for me, and I'd really like to do it."

This is a correspondence between a computer user and Tech Support Services regarding some operational difficulties encountered with his newly acquired programme.

Dear Tech Support,

I wish to bring to your attention that I am not satisfied with the latest upgrading that I did from Girlfriend 7.0 to Wife 1.0. I encountered numerous problems which were not expected. I noticed that the new program began Unexpected Child Processing that took up a lot of space and resources. This option was never used unless it was activated by accident (in spite of all precautions taken). Many of my former favorite programmes became non-operational due to "lack of space" as a result. No mention of this phenomenon was included in the product brochure. In addition, Wife 1.0 installs itself into all other programs and launches during system initialization, where it monitors all other system activities. Applications such as Pokernight 10.3, Drunken Boys Night 2.5 and Sunday Football 5.0 are no longer possible to run and crash the system whenever attempted. I have noticed that Wife 1.0 always remains in the background and interferes with the operation everytime I tried to run some of my other favourite applications. Just for an example, the system collapsed when I tried to run Red Light Street 3.0 which was one of my favorites before. An error message appeared from Wife 1.0 - " You commited a fatal error......."

I am quite disappointed with the Wife 1.0 and thinking about going back to Girlfriend 7.0, but I am unable to activate the un-install command on this program. Can you help me, please???

Thanks,

Joe

Dear Joe:

This is a very common problem many men complain about but is mostly due to a primary misconception. Many people upgrade from Girlfriend 7.0 to Wife 1.0 with the idea that it is just a program for UTILITIES & ENTERTAINMENT. Wife 1.0 is an OPERATING SYSTEM and designed to run everything.

It is unlikely that you would be able to purge Wife 1.0 and still convert back to Girlfriend 7.0. Hidden operating files within your system would cause Girlfriend 7.0 to emulate Wife 1.0 so that in the end, nothing would be gained. It is impossible to uninstall, delete, or purge the program files from the system once installed. You cannot go back to Girlfriend 7.0 because Wife 1.0 is not designed to do this. Some have tried to install Girlfriend 8.0 or Wife 2.0 but ended up with more problems than with the original system.

I recommend that you keep Wife a.0 and just deal with the situation. The unexpected child processing is inevitable if you operate Wife 1.0 with Protection mode disabled.

Having Wife 1.0 installed myself, I might also suggest you read the entire section regarding General Partnership Faults (GPFs). You must assume all responsibility for faults and problems that might occur, regardless of their actual cause. The best course of action will be to enter the command C:\APOLOGIZE. You may avoid excessive use of the Esc key because ultimately - you will have to give the APOLOGIZE command before the operating system will return to normal. The system will run smoothly as long as you take the blame for all the GPFs. Wife 1.0 is a great program, but needs a very high maintenance and also exceptional patience from the operator.

You may buy some additional software to improve the performance of Wife 1.0. I recommend Flowers 2.1 and Perfumes 5.0. Frequent surfing on the website: Lavish Purchasing also could improve the performance of Wife 1.0 to a great extent. Please note that some Utilities and Entertainment programmes such as Secretary - Short Skirt 3.3 or Secretary 2.1 Plus, which run on Clandestine Operation System Pro are not compatible or supported by Wife 1.0 and is likely to cause irreversible damage to the operating system if tried.

Best of luck,

Tech Support

Internet phones

Keeping on the topic of communication, a great upshot of the Internet has been the ability to make voice calls overseas via the network itself for no expense other than your local phone charge. The market is full of software, such as Firetalk or Intel Video Phone, that will allow you to do this.

Download Firetalk from www.firetalk.com.

Intel's Video Phone allows the user to have real time voice as well as video conferencing. For this however, you need to have a PC video camera which connects to your USB port.

Chatrooms such as Yahoo chat also offer a voice chat option. All you need is a microphone and both users to be logged on at the same time. A special Voice Chat Applet also is required which Yahoo chat will automatically download and install onto your machine. You can either voice chat with many users or have a private conversation.

Hi,

I was hoping you could publish something about "WAP". It's something I personally would like to get to know about. I have some specific questions I hope you can answer:

1. Is there any software available that help you make WAP pages (eg: -Microsoft Front Page 2000 to create html pages) ?
2. How does it work?
3. How do you browse?
4. How can you make and maintain a WAP site?

Dilanka.

I have managed to scrounge some frugal details on WAP, but in general I am as clueless as you are. With regard to your specific questions, I will try to give you more details in a future issue, hopefully next week. If anybody out there can help me out, please feel free to email or write in with any info you have.

WAP stands for Wireless Application Protocol. A protocol designed to make the resources of the Internet accessible to wireless users - namely mobile phone users.

Phone.com, Ericsson, Motorola and Nokia got together in June 1997 to form the WAP Forum, which culminated in the creation of the WAP standard.

WAP technology uses WML (Wireless Markup Language) which is derived from XML (eXtensible Markup Language) to function. It also utilises such Internet development standards as CGI, ASP and JAVA. Data is accessed via HTTP 1.1 Web servers using WML.
