Legendary

'You See The Trouble With Me' by Black Legend is the title of the new No:1 song in the UK this week. It toppled the three week reign of 'It Feels So Good' by Sonique. The dance music trend however continues from Sonique, (the biggest female DJ in the world) to Black Legend. The song 'You See The Trouble With Me' is a cover of the Barry White No: 2 hit of 1976.

'You See The Trouble With Me' is tipped to be the dance single of this summer. With the summer Ibiza season about to begin the current UK No:1 will be skinned at all the clubs.

One of hottest boy groups Backstreet Boys enter the singles chart with the track 'The One' at No: 8. It is one of the songs from the group's current album that has been receiving a lot of airplay at clubs and on radio. It's the 4th single to be taken from the Millennium album.

Last week Gabrielle's new single 'When A Woman', checked into the UK singles chart at No: 6. It is a very catchy song taking on the flavour of motown - Supremes era when that sound and style was hip. It is now the year 2000 but there still is a certain amount of nostalgia for that period provided the right song and artiste is there to perform. Gabrielle's 'When A Woman' fits the bill and the song comes as a follow up to her prvious single 'Rise' which went to No: 1 in the first week of February this year. Gabrielle's album titled 'Rise' has meanwhile reached double platinum status.

Last week the new Whitney Houston single 'If I Told You That' entered the chart at No: 9. It is a duet with the British singer George Michael. The song was originally featured on Whitney's 'I'm Your Baby Tonight' album released in 1990. It was perhaps her least successful album as her combination producers for the album did not suit her voice. The album just sponsored two hit singles. The title track which peaked at No: 5 and 'All The Man That I Need' which peaked at No: 13.

Whitney Houston placed the song on her 'Greatest Hits' album and had it recorded with George Michael. Apparently it was Michael Jackson who was offered the role to sing the duet but he rejected the song. A week after debuting at No: 9, 'If I Told You That' dropped 10 notches to No: 19 signalling an exit for the high profile combination of Houston and Michael.

The Blackheads once fronted by the late Ian Druny reunited for a charity concert on 16th June. The concert was staged at the Brixton Academy as a celebration for the life of Ian Druny. Druny died of cancer a few months ago. He was a victim of polio earlier on in life. He visited Sri Lanka two years ago with Robbie Williams as part of the UNICEF campaign to vaccinate infants against polio.

The charity which benefited from the concert was Cancer Back Up. Among the artistes who performed with the re-united Blackheads were Robbie Williams, Scuggs and Kirsty MaCall.

Madonna's boyfriend and father of her unborn child Guy Ritechie was warned by Police on 15th June for the assault of one of the singers fans outside the couple's London home. Meanwhile Madonna attended the premier of the film 'The Next Best Thing' in London. She acts in the movie with Rupert Everett.

'Soul' searching

By Laila Nasry and Ruhanie Perera
Everyone looks for their soul mate. That person made just for you. A person with all the qualities you look for in a partner. Yes perfect compatibility and maybe even at times perfect telepathy!

When there is a certain chemistry between two people is it that they have found their soul mate? Or are soul mates just fictitious characters of an over imaginative, unrealistic, soppy brain. After all there can't be 'perfect' people. What harm is there in settling for second best...or should you...

Aruni (name changed) (24):

If you are lucky enough you would find the perfect soul mate. I believe in them but I also feel that people often settle for second best which is a shame.

As you get older in life you may settle for a person who is not a soul mate because the road is long and you need to find a fellow traveller.

Personally, I need a dreamer. Not someone who would do things for the sake of doing things. Who would not believe that life is a mathematical calculation.

I thought I found my soul mate. But if I thought wrong, then in five years time if I haven't found the person I'm looking for, I'd settle for second best.

Anushka (name changed) (20):

Of course I believe in soul mates. My soul mate is out there and I'm living in hope that I'll find him soon. I kind of have this feeling that I'm going to find him sometime soon. And I know that there will be this connection when I find him. Just about anyone may have the qualities I'm looking for, but when I find HIM it will feel like something clicking into place.

Some people don't bother to wait for their soul mates and as a result they don't marry them. It would be an absolute disaster if you met your soul mate after you got married. That is why I won't get married until I find my soul mate. I'll wait...and wait...and wait.

Miuru Jayaweera (20):

I was in the Sunday school choir and he was the choir leader. I was 14 and he was 20. I was attracted to him and he was...yes, my soul mate.

Though it is an extremely emotional and soppy subject for sentimental people, I do believe in soul mates because I've found mine. I've known my fiance for six years and it's as if I've known him for 10,000 lifetimes. I totally connect with his understanding nature. He understands me so well and is a perfect foil when I go beserk. Right now he's in England but like real soul mates I feel him in my heart.

Ruwan (22):

Soul mates are a distinct possibility. I just haven't found my soul mate yet, so I don't have any first hand experience about these things. But, that doesn't mean I've ruled it out.

People do settle for second best sometimes. Most of the time because they don't find their soul mate and they can't wait any longer. I suppose they don't want to spend the rest of their lives alone. So they settle for the closest to their ideal.

I'll definitely wait for my soul mate. If she doesn't show up when I'm around 50 then I'll give up and get married to the closest.

I don't look for anything in particular. But I'll know when she shows up. I'll have that 'she's my soul mate feeling'. My only criteria is that she doesn't look like me. As long as she has a pulse and will talk to me - then she's my girl.

Roshan (name changed) (21):

I don't believe in soul mates becasuse I feel different people have diferent expectations and it's unfair to expect some one to fit into ones high expectations.

I guess I wouldn't find the 100% soul mate but I will settle for the person who can come closest to my expectations. It has to be an honest person- that is my main critertia for a soul mate. I haven't found my soul mate yet but I guess it's just a matter of time.

Thushara (name changed) (21):

Finding one's soul mate may not be realistic, but I believe in a soul mate being out there. I won't compromise and settle for second best. Hopefully she won't keep me waiting till I'm sixty.

Of course my soul mate has to be somebody I can totally relate and connect to, in every way. Someone who understands me as I would understand her in return.

I realize that finding one's soul mate may not be immediate. It might not be love at first sight, though it would be great if it was. It could happen over a period of time, as in a friend could become a soul mate. I haven't met my soul mate yet, but I will know when I do. It's intuition I guess.
