Navy SC almost had everything under their belt but eventually had to romp back home with a thrilling 20-all draw against Havelocks Sports Club in the second round game of the Dialog Division ‘A’ Inter-Club Rugby League Tournament played at Havelock Park today (30).
The blame could have passed onto the twice failed floodlights which caused stoppages of six minutes and almost 30 minutes later on, but from the Navy camp’s point of view, the two easy yet, missed penalties by fullback Thilina Weerasinghe, could be counted as crucial.
Navy led the halftime 13-10, having the Havelocks player under tremendous pressure but the home team struck back with plenty of mistakes coming in from both sides, who collected their points from two converted tries and two penalties each.
Weerasinghe posted a try, made two conversions and put over two penalties for Navy while Stephan Gregory posted the other try.
For Havelocks Rehan Thyagarajah and Dushmantha Priyadarshana posted tries while RImzi Jamaldeen put over two conversions and two penalties.
