In an endeavour of selecting teams to represent Southern Province at the National Sports Festival Southern Province Sports Department organised its inaugural Southern Province Carrom Tournament held at the Baddegama Town Hall under the supervision of the Carrom Federation of Sri Lanka.
Participated players from the Southern Province from Galle, Matara and Hambantota districts enabled provincial talent to be discovered as the slicers exhibited a high standard of carrom.
The Men’s Singles championship was won by K. Amila De Soyza from Galle District and the Women’s championship was clinched by Galle district’s V.G. Dilini Kumari.
Amila De Soyza met Nipuna Dyan Suduwella while the Women’s finals was competed by Renuka Malkanthi where Dilini Kumari emerged the winner.
Manog Namal Subasinghe and Thilini Madushika Medagoda secured the third place in the Men’s and Women’s Singles events respectively.
A highly successful and well organised event concluded with the awards presentation ceremony under the chairmanship of the Secretary of the Sri Lanka Carrom Federation Thumula Naotunna.
Sunanda Kodagoda Deputy Treasurer and Media Officer of CFSL along with veteran umpire Jagath Suraweera, Southern Province Sports Officer Sujee Sulthanagoda,Bodhi Sandaruwan, Akila Nisansala, Tamara Ilesinghe and Deliya De Silva also participated in the presentation.
