Right-handed batsman Angelo Perera has officially informed Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) that he is intending to retire from his international career according to sources close to the player.
Perera, 31, turned out for Sri Lanka in six One Day Internationals and six T20 internationals, but has failed to earn a permanent slot in the team since making his debut for the country in 2013.
He captained St. Peter's College and turned out for Colts and Nondescript Cricket Club at domestic level, while playing for Dambulla Viikings in the inaugural version of Lanka Premier League (LPL).
He led the Kandy Warriors in the LPL 2021.
Perera holds a rare record of scoring double centuries in both innings in 2019, only second to Arthur Fagg of England.
In 107 first class appearances, Perera has amassed 7597 runs at an average of 48.08 including 20 centuries and 37 half centuries with the best of 244.
In 150 List 'A' matches, he has scored 3876 runs at an average of 42.13 with the highest of 113 not out.
Perera led the Sri Lankan team in the 2nd Emerging Cup in 2017 in Bangladesh, that emerged victorious defeating Pakistan in the final.
Perera was named in Sri Lanka's Test squad against South Africa in 2019, but did not play.
He will join the Bangladesh Premier League later this month and from there is likely to move to the United States to pursue domestic cricket.
