Madawala Ulpatha MV Matale bagged major honours at the Matale education zone inter school Volleyball championship 2017 concluded at Aluviharaya Maha Vidyalaya ground Matale.
Spikers from Madawala Ulpotha MV had the honour of qualifying for the finals in all the three age group competitions under 16, 18 and 20 and then went on to clinch the U/18 and U/20 titles and secured the second slot (runners up) in the U/16 age category.
The opportunity for a triple crown for Madawala Ulpotha school was destroyed by Dullewa MV who defeated Madawala Ulpotha MV in the U/16 final.
The lasses from Pamunuwa MV, D.M. Gunarathna MV Mahawela and Sri Sangamitta girls NS Matale came out on top in the three age groups U/16, U/18 and U/20 respectively in the girls segment of this tournament.
Pamunuwa MV beat Vijaya College Matale in the U/16 final while D.M. Gunarathna MV Mahawela outplayed Anagarika Dharmapala MV Udasgiriya in the U/18 final.
In the U/20 final Sri Sangamitta girls NS Matale overcame Vijaya college Matale to win the title.
