Two suspects have been arrested for defrauding individuals by selling fake gold coins in Peliyagoda yesterday (Sept 27).
The arrest had been set in motion after two policemen posing as customers, had sought to purchase gold coins worth Rs 1.5 million.
Police said the suspects had been arrested at the car park of a supermarket when they had arrived to carry out the transaction.
Four gold coins and 1400 copper coins had been recovered from the suspects who have been identified as those of the ages 31 and 37.
Investigations had shown that both individuals are wanted over a court trial against them in Anuradhapura, for defrauding individuals.
The suspects are to be produced before the Colombo Magistrate's Court today.
