The reconstruction of the ‘Gini Petti Bridge’ (Matchbox bridge) belonging to the Parakrama Samudrya project at Polonnaruwa commenced under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena today, the President's Media Division reported.
The recent dilapidation of this bridge has caused many hardships to the paddy farmers in the area. The supply of water to 15,000 Acres of paddy fields has been blocked due to the dilapidation of this bridge.
The estimated amount of money allocated for this project is Rs. 250 million.
The President unveiled a commemoration plaque to mark the commencement of construction and engaged in an observation tour around the place.
