(UPDATE) : Police are investigating whether antique items had gone missing from the 150 year ancestral home of late Savumiamoorthy Thondaman in Kotmale before a major fire destroyed the building last night.
Police and army have been deployed to guard the house at Wavendon estate in Ramboda, Kotmale while sniffer dogs were brought into to assist in the investigations.
Ceylon workers Congress (CWC) sources said that some of its members have complained that they believe that some of the items had gone missing even before the recent funeral of minister Arumugam Thondaman.
The house was completely destroyed in the fire that lasted more than two hours. The Government Analyst was due to visit the site today evening.
