A suspect was arrested while attempting to sell a conch shell for Rs 29.9 million in Hali Ela on Saturday (Mar 02).
The arrest was made by the Badulla police under the directives of Uva Province DIG Jagath Palihakkara at a residential quarters belonging to estate workers in the area.
According to the police, the conch shell was concealed in a heap of rice in one of the rooms at the dwelling.
The suspect had confessed to have tranported the conch shell worth Rs 30 million from Jaffna in order to sell it for Rs 29.9 million.
Police investigations revealed that the suspect was an estate worker living in Nawalapitiya.
