An 18-year old girl who was drowning in the Panama Lagoon was rescued by a team of Navy lifesavers who were on duty yesterday (Apr 19).
The incident had occurred when the girl, an 18-year old resident of Pottuvil had been bathing with a group of locals in the lagoon.
Sailors attached to the Rapid Response Rescue and Relief Unit (4RU) who were on duty had witnessed the girl in distress and had rescued her. She was handed over to her relatives, Navy said.
Meanwhile, two men who were thrown off a Jet Water Ski at Lake Gregory in Nuwara Eliya had also been rescued by Navy personnel yesterday.
