Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera, and non-cabinet minister Ajith Perera have resigned from their positions, hours after the ruling party conceded defeat at the presidential poll.
Taking to his Twitter handle, Non-Cabinet Minister of Digital Infrastructure and IT Perera said he would resign with immediate effect "while respecting the mandate of the people".
While respecting the mandate of the people of Sri Lanka, I have decided to resign from my position as the Minister of Digital Infrastructure and IT with immediate effect. It was a well fought battle @sajithpremadasa and the country needs your leadership at this critical time.

In addition, Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera too has reportedly handed over his resignation to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Parliamentarian Harin Fernando too announced that he would resign from his position as minister with immediate effect.
