Kidney racket suspects transferred to Colombo Prison

The Colombo Additional Magistrate today ordered the Prisons Superintendent to transfer the seven remaining Indian nationals suspected to be involved in an international kidney racket to the Colombo Prison. 

Colombo Additional Magistrate Nishantha Peiris gave the order after the Colombo Crime Division (CCD) requested that the suspects be transferred from their current holding location at the Mirihana Detention Camp. 

Prison Authority officials informed court yesterday that the first suspect in the case, identified as Vijitha Giri Lakshman Kumar, had escaped from the Mirihana Detention Camp. 

The CCD had complained of low security at the detention camp and cited the escape of the first suspect in its request for the transfer of the remaining suspects to the Colombo Prison.
