A 12-year-old Indian national who was part of a cricket team taking part in a cricket tournament in the country has drowned in a hotel swimming pool.
Police Media Unit said the tragedy occurred last evening (5) at a hotel in Pamunugama. The victim was part of a 19-member team from India who were in the country to take part in an Under 17 Cricket Tournament.
According to Police, four members of the team had been swimming in the pool of the hotel they were staying at last evening when one of the students had allegedly drowned. He was admitted to Pamunugama Hospital but had later died.
The 12-year-old victim is a resident of Gujarat. The body has been taken to the Ragama Teaching Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Pamunugama Police are investigating.
