Sri Lanka marked the 160th anniversary of its railway service today (Dec. 27).
The milestone commemorates the country’s first scheduled train journey in 1864, which ran from Colombo Fort to Ambepussa.
To celebrate the occasion, religious activities were held at the Colombo Fort Railway Station, while a special pinkama is planned at the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura, said the Sri Lanka Railways General Manager Mr. J.I.D. Jayasundara.
