Sri Lankan Ambassador to US Rodney Perera presented his credentials to US President Donald Trump on July 8, the Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a press release.
During the meeting, the Ambassador had cited a “multi-dimensional” relationship with US as an important objective for the Sri Lankan government. These relationships include trade and economic ties, expanding social contacts and promoting international as well as regional peace and security.
President Trump, had reiterated that the US would stand with Sri Lanka in order to expand counter-terrorism, maritime, and border security cooperation in the aftermath of the Easter Sunday bombings.
He had also welcomed Sri Lanka’s commitments to promote reconciliation, accountability, and justice following the civil war, the Finance Ministry added.
On the sidelines, Perera had presented images of the Lovamahapaya and Jetavanaramaya, two monumental structures in Sri Lanka to the US President, since the latter had been previously involved in construction projects as an entrepreneur.
