The Sri Lankan and South Korean governments today (Aug 21) signed an agreement for a USD 5 million grant to develop the fisheries industry in the island.
Accordingly, these funds would be used to construct an ocean research centre in Kalpitiya which would be managed by both countries, Fisheries State Minister Dileep Wedaarachchi said.
The agreement would also see the donation of a state-of-the-art research vessel by South Korea to Sri Lanka for research activities in the deep seas.
